Volkswagen unveils latest generation of 1.5-litre TSI engine

The 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from Volkswagen is already one of the most advanced and impressive powertrains on the market. Featuring 158 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque in models like the Volkswagen Taos or the Volkswagen Jetta, the new 1.5-litre TSI engine introduced this month is the second generation of the famed VW turbo powertrain.

It will offer a host of improvements designed to make an already efficient engine even more impressive. The engine will rollout in Europe shortly, before likely making its way to North America.

The Volkswagen 1.5-litre TSI Evo2 features an improved cylinder deactivation system which optimizes the efficiency of the cylinders when activated. Moreover, VW engineers have moved the three-way catalytic converter and the particle filter closer to the engine in a single emissions control module, therefore improving and enhancing the performance of the engine’s mission control module.
