Three tips for preparing your Volkswagen for the summer vacations

With the past two years behind us, many people will be spending their vacations on the road this summer, not at home. So if you're planning to take your Volkswagen on the road in the next few weeks, it's important to prepare it well to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Here are a few things to look for before you hit the road.

Tires

Are your tires in good condition? Often, it's not just a question of kilometers driven, but also of age. Check for significant tread wear or unevenness. Also, look for cracking in the rubber. If you have any doubts, it would be prudent to replace them before you head out on your vacation.

Also, to maximize your Volkswagen's already excellent fuel efficiency, don't forget to check the pressure in each of your wheels.

The battery

People tend to think that vehicle batteries die in the winter. However, summer is just as difficult on them because of the heat. Does your battery still work as well? Have you noticed slower starts or jerky operation of certain accessories? Again, on the road to vacation, the last thing you want to do is waste a day shopping for a new battery.

Brakes

When was the last time your brake system was inspected? That's another thing we tend to forget. Keep a close eye on how your vehicle responds to braking. Does it tend to pull to one side or does it bounce when slowing down? Brake system fluid should also be checked to make sure it is up to par. You can never be too careful when it comes to brakes.

Fluids

With summer, it should be routine, as it should be in the fall with the return of cold weather. Changing your fluids is an essential operation that allows all the components of your Volkswagen to function optimally at all times.

Ducts and belts

The same goes for the hoses and belts found in the engine compartment. You can check them yourself to see if there are any cracks or if the tension is no longer optimal with the main belt. Being proactive here can save you a lot of grief.

To be on the safe side, if these operations seem a bit complex, don't hesitate to make an appointment at our workshop so that we can take care of you.
