The Volkswagen Atlas vs. Atlas Cross Sport: Which is Right for You?

The Volkswagen Atlas vs. Atlas Cross Sport: Which is Right for You?

SUVs have become increasingly popular in recent years, and the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are two of the most sought-after options on the market. While these vehicles may look similar, there are significant differences between them that could impact your decision-making process. In this article, we'll be taking a closer look at two important factors: dimensions and price. By the end of it, you'll have a better understanding of what sets the 2023 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport apart and which one might be the right choice for you. So, let's jump in!

Size and Space

The first thing you'll notice when looking at the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport side-by-side is that the Cross Sport is smaller. It's a two-row SUV that seats five passengers, while the Atlas is a three-row SUV that can seat up to seven passengers. That said, they still share the same wheelbase of 2,979 mm and the same general design aesthetic. The Atlas Cross Sport is still extremely roomy despite being shortened by 132 mm when compared to the regular Atlas.

Indeed, the Atlas Cross Sport doesn't lose much interior room other than the cargo space. Behind the second row of seats, there are 1,141 litres of available cargo space compared to 1,572 litres in the larger Atlas. That's only a difference of 431 litres, so it's not something that should be a major concern if you're looking for an SUV with plenty of storage space. As for the rest of the interior space, it's pretty similar, if not identical.

Price

The other difference between the 2023 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport is another minor one: price. The regular Atlas starts at $42,495, while the Cross Sport begins at $41,395. That's only a difference of $1,100, which isn't much when you consider the features each vehicle offers. However, if you're on a tight budget, then the lower starting price of the Atlas Cross Sport might make it the more attractive option if you don't need the extra space, of course.

Powertrain Options and Interior Amenities

Both SUVs come with your choice of two different engines: a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.6L V6. They also both have standard all-wheel drive and offer similar interior amenities like heated seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity, and more. So, no matter which SUV you choose, you'll be getting a great vehicle with plenty of features to keep you comfortable on long drives.

At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference. Do you need a three-row SUV with room for seven passengers? Or would a smaller two-row SUV suffice? And how important is the budget in your decision-making process? If you take all of these factors into account, you should be able to decide which Volkswagen SUV is right for you. Whichever one you choose, you're sure to get a great vehicle that will serve your needs well for years to come.
