2023 Volkswagen Tiguan Overview

2023 Volkswagen Tiguan Overview

Even though the Volkswagen Tiguan was refreshed for 2022, VW has continued improving on the model for 2023, with a lowered front bumper and enlarged VW logo bringing the Tiguan more in-line with the larger Atlas Cross Sport.

Inside, keyless access is now standard along with keyless start. That’s good news but many Canadians will be even happier about the fact that heated front seats and steering wheel also continue to come as standard, making in that much easier to live with you Tiguan in Canada’s famously cold winter months.

Also helping in that regard is standard 4Motion AWD, which has the ability to transfer power between the front and rear axles on an infinitely variable basis. That means that as much or as little power as is required can be shuffled about; there are no pre-set front/back ratios to which the AWD system is fixed, meaning precise power dispersal so you can have the best traction possible even before you realize you need it.

After AWD, there is a suite of driver aids under the IQ.DRIVE system that offers lane-centering when on the highway, and can also look for possible obstacles on the road ahead when at low speeds in-town, and warn the driver about any potential hazards. Forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, active blind spot monitor and rear traffic alert are just a sampling of the many features IQ.Drive provides.

When it comes to the Tiguan’s on-board experience, interior room and efficient progress are the orders of the day.

The latter is achieved via standard start/stop feature on all trims as well as special combustion mapping to help improve combustion efficiency of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s good for 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, all the while using less than 10 L/100 km of fuel usage in the combined cycle.

Inside, look for over 2,000 litres of cargo room if you fold the second-row seating, and a generous 1,065 litres behind the second row. The second row also gets a 40/20/40 split, so you can carry longer items without sacrificing and entire outboard seat. This is a compact crossover that sure doesn’t feel like one!
