The Taos is Volkswagen’s new compact SUV. It stands out thanks to its design, efficiency, interior space and signature German engineering that all VW drivers know and love. It is smaller than the Tiguan, but still deploys plenty of space along with a unique driving experience.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos brings more to the table
The Taos is powered by a new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It is as powerful as it is efficient and is standard across the model lineup.
Four out of five Seltos models rely on a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that rates at 146 horsepower and just 132 lb-ft of torque. That is quite a difference in performance compared to the Taos. The top-grade SX Turbo is the only Seltos trim that offers a turbocharged unit with just a little more power, but its price is way above that of a well-equipped Taos.
All but one Taos trim includes standard 4MOTION AWD. FWD models feature an 8-speed transmission, and AWD models receive a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. And while efficiency is very important, the Taos delivers on all fronts. The FWD drive Taos only uses 8.4 L/100 km in the city and 6.6 L/100 km on the highway fuel consumption rating, topping the Seltos' highway rating of 7.1 L/100 km.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is roomy, versatile and technologically advanced
Even if it looks very compact, the Volkswagen Taos impresses with its sizeable interior space. Front and rear seat occupants in the Taos enjoy more head and shoulder room than the Seltos, emphasizing the 2,817 litres of available passenger volume.
However, it's also important for compact/subcompact crossovers to offer the most versatility as possible. The Taos includes 1,877 litres of cargo volume behind the rear seats do drivers can transport everything they need. The Kia Seltos is 100 litres short in this metric.
